Church Staff

Reverend Ruth Blum was born and raised in Western PA.   Her first career was as a music education teacher in PA public Schools & she retired from teaching after 15 years to raise her daughter.  At 18 months of age, we found that we would be on our own.  She then moved to Ohio and began working as part time Music director for a local church & was then hired to be Christian Education Director, Youth Director and Music Director at Granger UMC. While attending classes for certification she says:  “I experienced my call singing the words from the hymn ‘Here I am Lord.’” She was a single parent, so it took quite a long time to complete an education for ministry.  She was ordained in the East Ohio Conference while serving Rocky River UMC and then served in East Ohio Conference from 1992-2004 before accepting a position in the Desert Southwest Conference where she has served as the “associate pastor” for 12 years at Dove of the Desert UMC and retired in 2016. Ruth’s sister shares our home together on the West side at Westbrook Village.  She has a daughter, Brittaney who lives close to this church.   She’s looking forward to this next step in the journey of Aldersgate UMC.  God has a plan for Aldersgate UMC and we are able and willing follow where God leads us.
